Australi - Top End Explorer Cultural Tour - austop001

Australia - Top End Explorer Cultural Tour

Experience the essence of the Top End of Australia in this 6-day programme that commences in Darwin. Known as the gateway to the Top End, Darwin is a relaxed and casual city with consistently mild temperatures and blue skies. Rich in history the city has an interesting mix of people and cultures. Our tour takes us first to the world class, award winning Territory Wildlife Park, home to the largest collection of local, native wildlife. We visit the famous Litchfield National Park, a huge sandstone plateau with beautiful waterfalls and monsoon rainforests and explore the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. Here see Gunlom Falls, cruise the Yellow Waters and cross the Jabiluka floodplains to Ubirr to view the Aboriginal rock art. This programme gives the visitors an insight into the local Aboriginal heritage and breathtaking views over the less visited section of the park, known as the stone country.

This is a Personal Choice private tour, organised for two people travelling together.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Darwin, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel..

Day 2 This morning travel to the world class, Award-winning Park. Enjoy a bush walk or take the park train to explore the many exhiibits including the nocturnal house, to see many rare animals where night is turned into day; the aquarium with underwater viewing tunnel. This afternoon join a city tour. See the Chinese Temple and Botanical Gardens, Stokes Hill Wharf Precinct, East Point Reserve and the Museum of Arts and Science. The evening is at leisure.

Day 3 - Leave Darwin early and travel east along the Arnhem Highway across the Adelaide and Mary River towards Kakadu. A brief stop at the Bark Hut Inn before continuing across the South Alligator River floodplains and travel onto one of Kakadu's famous rock art sites at Burrungui (Nourlangie Rock). Here you will see ochre rock paintings, spanning a period of continuous occupation of this area for over 20,000 years. The guide will explain the stories and mythology relating to the art. After lunch continue to the Warradjan Aboriginal cultural Centre. Here you will learn more about the traditional aboriginal owners of the park, their culture, beliefs and lifestyles.

Day 4 – This morning embark on a guided cruise of the world famous Yellow Water wetlands with the opportunity to see some of the myriad bird life and perhaps the awesome saltwater crocodile, Broigas, Jabiru, Whisling Ducks, Radjah Shellduck and Magpie Geese together with many species of Kingfisher and Heron which abound in these wetlands. After the cruise travel south to spend time in the southern, less visited section of Kakadu, known as the stone country. Gunlom was made famous in Crocodile Dundee as Echo Pool. Here we have time for a swim. Leaving Kakadu continue westward to the historic mining settlement of Pine Creek, still a gold mining town today. We continue north to our overnight accommodation at the Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort.

Day 5 –This morning our journey takes us to Litchfield National Park via the township of Batchelor. We visit the beautiful Wangi Falls and Tolmer Falls lookout, two of the many waterfalls cascading from the Tabletop Rnages. After lunch we travel on to Florence Falls, perhaps the prettiest of them all. There is also the opportunity to view the unique magnetic termite mounds before we leave the National Park and return to Darwin.
