Northern Ireland and Castleward Opera Festival

Combine a visit to Northern Ireland’s spectacular Antrim coast to see the extraordinary Giant’s Causeway, with an exploration of Belfast’s shipbuilding past and a visit to the Opera.  In the  Transport Museum there is a special display of the construction drawings of the Titanic.  We also have a boat tour of the port to see where it was build.  Castle Ward House, a fine National Trust property is host to an elegant summer festival of opera.  The Opera being performed this year is The Masked Ball.  There are other visits to Belfast, St Patrick’s Grave and Mount Stewart.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Independent arrival in Belfast and check in to the hotel.  Dinner this evening will be in the hotel.

Day 2 – There will be ahalf day city tour of Belfast were we visit Belfast City Centre, Titanic Quarter, Cathedral Quarter, Political Districts (Wall Murals/Shankill Road/Falls Road).  We then have lunch in the famous “Crown Bar”.  Afternoon is free. After independent dinner in the hotel we transfer by ferry to Castleward for this evening’s performance of The Masked Ball by Verdi. A picnic hamper will also be included at the opera.

Day 3 – We travel up the beautiful Antrim Coast line where we visit the Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge and the World Heritage site of the Giants Causeway.  We then travel to Bushmills after and independent lunch we have a tour of Bushmills Whiskey Distillery.  Dinner this evening is independent. .  

Day 4 - This morning we visit the birthplace of Titanic.  We visit the Transport museum where they have a permanent exhibition of the Titanic. We then take a boat tour around the docks of where the Titanic started out.  In the afternoon we travel back to County Down where we visit Down Cathedral and St Patrick’s grave before returning to our hotel.  The evening is free.

Day 5 – We have a tour of Mount Stewart House.  After independent lunch there will be a transfer to Belfast International Airport for a return flight.

 

Hotel: The Portaferry Hotel - Charming waterside inn overlooking Strangford Lough.  Housed in a terrace dating back to the 18th century.  The property has been refurbished in traditional style which takes advantage of its unique setting.
