The island of Cuba is outstandingly beautiful and is blessed with an equable, hot climate throughout the year. Cuba also has a long and turbulent history, which is reflected in its architecture. Our tour includes Havana, Trinidad and Cienfuegos as well as the island’s lush interior with its tobacco fields, fertile valleys and nature reserve. The last two nights are spent in Varadero to allow time to unwind and enjoy the magnificent beaches.
This is a Personal Choice private tour, organised for two people travelling together.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Fly to Havana and transfer to the hotel. Welcome cocktail and dinner in the hotel.
Day 2 – Morning visit to Old Havana with fine Colonian architecture dating from 1519. Visit the Plaza de Armas and Cathedral Square and also the Floridita Bar frequented by Hemingway. After lunch in a local restaurant visit Modern Havana including a drive along the Malecon, Havana’s seafront promenade. Dinner this evening in La Bodeguita del Medio or La Divina Patora.
Day 3 –Today leave for the Nature Reserve of Cienaga Zapata. Visit the Bay of Pigs, site of the failed CIA invasion in 1961. Continue to the neo-classical city of Cienfuegos, known as the “Pearl of the Caribbean”. There will be lunch and a city tour. Then travel to Trinidad to your hotel.
Day 4 – The day is spent exploring Trinidad which was founded in 1514, and is one of the best preserved colonial cities in the world. Visit the Plaza Mayor to see the Church of Santisima Trinidad, dating from 1894. There is also a visit the Casa de la Trova and the local museum.
Day 5 – Depart for Santa Clara in the centre of the island and famous for its university and the final combat of the Revolution. Visit the Memorial to Che Guevara. Continue to the famous resort of Varadero with its stunning white sand stretching for miles. Check into the hotel.
Day 6 and Day 7 – These two days are at leisure to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and the facilities offered by the hotel.
Day 8 – Return to Havana and transfer to the airport for the return flight to London, arriving the following day.
